UK: Cross-Border Revellers from Ireland pack Belfast Pubs as Dublin Halts Re-Openings

Enjoy the Friday night in Belfast, Northern Ireland

Irish party-goers crossed the border to enjoy the Friday night in Belfast, Northern Ireland, as the restrictions remained in place across the Republic of Ireland.

Around 90 percent of the hotel bookings were made by guests from across the border, according to reports.

“Going abroad is now a bit more difficult. So it is like a holiday”, said a guest from the Republic of Ireland, explaining that she did not have to care about booking flights and COVID test, which made her trip convenient.

The Irish government halted the reopening of the hospitality venues, initially planned for July 5, amid concerns of the new Delta variant of coronavirus.
